David Easter, MD

David Easter is a general surgeon, surgical oncologist on faculty who is also Director of the UC San Diego General Surgery Residency Program. He was at one time the Clinical Director of the Moores UC San Diego Cancer Center. In this role he was responsible for setting the tone for interaction with our patients.

David is the most warm, fuzzy, aloha-spirited surgeon one may ever meet. As Director of the Surgery Residency, David is the mentor in chief of a new generation of surgeons. With him in that role, there is great hope for new surgeons who are not only possessed of the latest technical skills in the field, but of an uncharacteristic warmth and sensitivity to the feelings of patients and their families.

For many years David was a regular attendee at the Luau and Longboard, as the official representative of the Moores UC San Diego Cancer Center. He has a collection of aloha shirts from each of the Luaus that he attended. We know this award will be displayed proudly where students and residents can see it as a official recognition that one’s humanity can be just as important as one’s skills with a scalpel.
